Ramgarhia College of Education honored renowned social worker
Mr. Nirpal Singh Riat OBE with RAMGARHIA PRIDE AWARD

Ramgarhia College of Education, Phagwara organized Ramgarhia Pride Award Ceremony in the college. In this ceremony Mr. Nirpal Singh Riat OBE from UK was awarded with Ramgarhia Pride Award for his tremendous work in the field of Punjabi culture promotion, social work and education. He is the president of Punjabi Circle International UK and Bucks Punjabi Society International, societies supporting charity, culture and community cohesion. It is worth mentioning here that since 1982, Mr. Riat has been working in different spheres especially in the field of Punjabi cultural promotion and social work. For his philanthropic efforts and years of voluntary work Mr.Nirpal Singh Riat has been honored by Queen Elizabeth II in 2011 and awarded the Order of the British Empire.

The function began with name of the Almighty by the college shabad team. The students performed with full zeal in the function. M.Ed. student Sandeep Bangar presented Punjabi folk song, Lovepreet Punjabi sufi geet, and the members of Apna Theatre Group, Phagwara presented an emotional play Mitti Da Bawa based on Indo-Pak war. Moreover, Mr. Bal Bahadur Sain Duggal, Ex-President Municipal Corporation, Phagwara; Mr. Goldy, Representative, Youth Akali Dal Phagwara; Mr. Inderjit Duggal, Representative BJP group, Phagwara; and Dr. M.S. Chana, Representative, Ramgarhia Community Phagwara; also graced the occasion with their presence. In end of the function Mr. Nirpal Singh Riat donated £6878.37 for the college welfare.

Principal Dr. Surinder Jit Kaur welcomed the luminaries, dignitaries and guests. She articulated that Mr. Nirpal Singh Riat is an extraordinary man who is drawn to the roots and has numerous achievements to his credit. Having been involved in the Asian music circuit, he has promoted such musical legends like late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Mehdi Hasan, Reshma and nearly each and every musical artist from India and Pakistan. The Punjabi Community is proud of the fact that Mr. Nirpal Singh Riat has donated approximately £80,000 to much needed charities till date.

Mrs. Manpreet Kaur Bhogal, President cum Chairperson, Ramgarhia Educational Council and Dr. Vyoma Bhogal Dhatt, Director Ramgarhia Educational Institutions congratulated Mr. Nirpal Singh Riat, Principal Dr. Surinder Jit Kaur; staff members and students for organizing this valuable ceremony. She remarked that Education is not merely about systems, facts and figures. "There is dire need in Punjab of practitioners like Mr. Nirpal Singh Riat who can lend a helping hand in looking for new ways to modernize and internationalize out-of-date curricula in education, control drug menace, and enhance employability" she remarked.
